Defiance

This is a deliberate act of defiance, ignoring an order of the President in an attempt to uphold democracy (free-speech).

Examples:

Defying Trump, Twitter feeds for U.S. government scientists go rogue

President Trump ordered Environmental Agencies to stop posting on social media. In reponse, "Rogue" accounts appeared across Twitter and Facebook, making environmental statements as a form of protest.

Defunding/Decrease Funding

Diverting money for an administrative, legislative, enforcement, or research entity through budgetary rewriting or redistribution. Can occur at varying governmental levels.

​

Examples:

Trump's EPA "evisceration"

Trump plans to cut EPA Budget (and many other programs). Trump's proposed fiscal budget would slash funding of the EPA by roughly 31% and eliminate 50 programs and 3,200 positions, mostly on the national level (hardly any cuts to the funding that makes it to state and local level programs).This cut would affect the EPA police, the implementation of the Clean Power Plan, the Research & Development section, and the clean-up of Superfund sites.

Demonstration

A demonstration or public protest normally consists of walking or marching in the streets, either beginning with or ending at a designated gather point, to hear speakers. People often display banners, shout slogans, or simply make noise.

Examples:

Berlin "Wir haben es satt"

On January 21st 2017 18.000 people in Berlin took their protest to the streets and gathered for a demonstration for healthy food, a more rural and ecological farming, animal welfare and fair trade, called "Wir-haben-es-satt-Demo" (We are fed up). Many farmers joined the protest and led the demonstration with their 130 tractors.

Love Canal

Love Canal, toxic waste landfill. In the late 1970s, families in the area protested and demanded evacuation and studies done by EPA. Took 2 EPA agents "hostage" in Love Canal district in order to recieve answers from President Carter.

Scott Pruitt, Trump's head of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) dismissed a basica scientifc understanding of climate change by saying the did not believe that the release of CO² are a primary cause of global warming.

Divesting /Divestment

As the opposite of investing. The selling off of holdings, assets, or funding at particular bank, institution, or company, in order to divert monetary resources. often used in terms of divesting from fossil fuels

San Francisco's Board of supervisors, Norwegian DNB Bank, ING Bank, Norwegian KLP Life Insurance company (just to list a few) divested from the Dokate Access Pipleline (DAPL). "Then ING sold its shares, worth about $220 million, in the parent companies behind DAPL and announced it would not engage in any future business with them.
