Sanctions

An official order that is taken against a person or a country in order to make them obey law, rule or punishment given. Measures taken by a state to coerce another to conform to an international agreement or norms of conduct, typically in the form of restrictions on trade or official sporting participation.

Examples:

EU restrictive measures in response to the crisis in Ukraine

The EU imposed sanctions on Russia due to the annexation of Crimea. The objective by doing so is to force Russia to undo its actions

'Non-compliance with binding EU targets'

When a EU member state is not complying with EU Natura 2000 targets, the EU imposes high sanctions on it with a daily rising amount of money.
